The 31st of March 2025 is World Backup Day.

Given that…

21% of people have never made a backup

113 phones are lost or stolen every minute

And, 29% of data losses are caused by accidents

Take this as your sign to ensure that your digital life is backed up.

This includes..

  • Photos on your mobile phone
  • The hard drive of your laptop and/or computer – all your documents and photos
  • Any external hard drives you may have

And ensuring that your hosting provider takes regular backups of your website and any connected data files. If you are hosting with Nachos, rest assured that this does happen.

All files/photos should be backed up to a central place, whether that is a physical hard drive or cloud based storage. In an ideal world you would have both, or multiples of both, to maximise the safety of your files.

Where possible you should keep a backup off site – for example, there should be a backup in your place of work but also off site at a secure location of your choice in case there is a fire or another damaging event at your place of work.

This is where cloud backups become very effective as not everyone has a secure off site location for their backup to be kept.

Any external backups, such as external hard drives, should be password protected. Ensure that you keep that password safe, but please, no sticky notes!

Backups aren’t just limited to your digital life

It is also a good idea to make digital copies of important and/or precious physical files and printed photos so that whatever happens you don’t ever lose them.

This can be a larger task, but just chip away bit by bit.

Then you can make the World Backup Day pledge…

“I solemnly swear to back up my important documents and precious memories on March 31st
